He scored 18 unanswered points in the third quarter to break the back of New Haven and set his side on the road to Grand Final glory.
“Brent was the guy who stepped up and led the Axemen to victory,” said AMNRL president David Niu.
“His performance was the most impressive individual display I have witnessed in the history of AMNRL Grand Finals. When the game was on the line, he was the difference between the two teams. Best player on the field by a mile.”
Shorten’s Jacksonville teammate Adrian Grayson has been named 2010 AMNRL MVP.
“One of the hardest working and most inspirational players I have seen play in our competition in the past 13 years,” added Niu.
“Adrian has been a pleasure to watch and an integral part of the team’s success this season. He demonstrates all the qualities of a champion player. I hope he can make Jacksonville his home for many years to come.”
Jacksonville finished the season unbeaten after defeating the Warriors 34-14 in the Grand Final.
