Philadelphia Fight Rugby News and Press
April 6, 2010
The PBR Philadelphia Fight Rugby League Club is proud to announce our creation of a club hall of fame, and our very first inductee is the club founder and former player Jeff Preston.
Jeff Preston has been at the forefront of rugby league development in America since his first international match as a player against Canada in 1993 at Lake Placid, NY, to his creation of the Philadelphia Fight RLFC, to his current role as assistant coach of the USA Tomahawks national team and executive board member for the American National Rugby League. As one of the first USA Rugby League representatives and team captain Jeff helped develop the national team program for over a decade. In that time he has participated in the 1995 and 2000 Emerging Nations Rugby League World Cups, the Student Rugby League World Cup in 1996, World Sevens Tournaments, and played international matches against many of the world rugby league powers including Australia, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand along with numerous international battles with Japan, Canada, Russia, Lebanon and the Cook Islands. Associated to his contribution to the national team program, Jeff has been the driving force behind many domestic rugby league programs including the development of the Glen Mills Bulls RLFC prior to creating the Philadelphia Fight team as one of the founding clubs of the AMNRL. It was a match between these two clubs that became the catalyst for the now annual AMNRL Summer Rugby League Festival, "War at the Shore" which this year will enjoy it's thirteenth anniversary. Beyond Jeff's contribution as a player and administrator has been his dedicated commitment to youth rugby development, and a desire to grow the grassroots layers of the sport of rugby league in the Philadelphia area and nationally. Not only is Jeff a popular figure in the total US rugby community having been a USA Rugby Union representative, but he is also an iconic figure that rugby league fans around the world associate with the sport of Rugby League in America through his efforts on the international stage in Australia and Europe. We congratulate Jeff on his induction and thank him for all he has done in the evolution of the Fight both in the past and our bright future.
