US Tomahawks center and Aston DSC Bulls captain Greg Stelluti has been honored by the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) by being named an International Player of the Year.
The awards were given to players from teams that competed to qualify for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. The RLIF decided to mark the 2008 Rugby League World Cup and the games centenary in Australia by introducing the international awards that will provide ongoing recognition of players throughout the world. It is an unbelievable feeling to be honored by the RLIF and the USA coaching staff and administration with this award, Stelluti told ARN. I feel lucky to be a part of the USA Tomahawks, Aston Bulls and the AMNRL. I have enjoyed being a part of all the great work David Niu has done for this sport in our country. All of the hard work with USA trainer Ron Artingstall was a key part to preparing this past year. His famed 500 workout had me in the best playing shape of my life. Stelluti led the Bulls to this years American National Rugby League Grand Final where they were upended by the New Haven Warriors. It was the Warriors first AMNRL championship. He also played for the US mens national rugby league team the Tomahawks at the RLWC qualifiers last November in the UK. It is important for the game to officially recognize its players and officials through an awards such as this, said RLIF Chairman and RLWC08 tournament director Colin Love AM. The RLIF feels that there could be no better time than this World Cup and the centenary of the game in Australia to institute an annual awards to honor the best in Rugby League from around the world.
