The Philadelphia Fight held their first year end season honors luncheon yesterday at Kildares Irish Pub in West Chester PA. The team gathered along with sponsors to celebrate the rebirth of the Fight club, and honor those that helped put the Fight back on the map in 2008.

2008 PFRLC Player Awards Dave Wilmore-Players Player/MVP A newcomer to Rugby League & the Philadelphia Fight in 2008, Dave Wilmore wore the number 9 & always played in a mood reflecting his US Marine training. He had a tenacious, never-give-up attitude. He frequently appeared to tackle everybody & in more than one game notched up some 40 tackles. Always attentive at practice & after some intense work on his role became more accustomed & reliable, Dave developed his skills over the season & would continually make in-roads into the opposition defense from dummy-half. His all-over-the-ground defense & high work rate made him a valuable asset to the team & received immense respect from all other Fight players. James Coleman-Best Forward Prop Forward, James Coleman, never missed a practice session or game during the 2008 season. In his first year playing Rugby League, James continued to show immense improvement in every match he played. He followed the coaches instructions & took the game to the opposition whenever asked to. He made himself a tough & robust player to tackle & was rock solid in defense, at times for a very unlucky opposition. James never took a backward step with the ball, burrowing his way into the opposition defense frequently. He supported & interchanged with his fellow forwards & earned himself the good quality of a team player. John Evangelista-Best Back John Evangelista made a come-back to Rugby League with the Fight in 2008 after a season or two with the now dismantled Mantarays. John played in every game for the Fight during 2008 & was always robust in both attack & defense. Mostly playing at five-eighth, John took responsibility around the rucks & frequently matched it with forwards much bigger than him. His ability to often chase down the opposition in defense demonstrated his flexibility for Rugby League. With the ball in his hands, John made it difficult for the opposition to get hold of him. He often led by example with such a high work rate. He frequently showed signs of a good ball distributor & quick-step runner. His overall contribution to the team & always looking for opportunities to improve was highly regarded by his team mates.
